Protocol Review Process

Before a scientific procedure can be carried out on laboratory animals, the procedure must be approved first through the UPD-IACUC's protocol review process.

For any procedure to be done on animals, the researcher must first submit a Protocol Review Form (PRF, UPD-IACUC Form 1). The PRF should include standard information that focuses on the welfare and use of the animals.

A submitted protocol is assigned under one of the following categories:

• Category 1: Procedures of Low or Mild Severity
• Category 2: Procedures of Medium or Moderate Severity
• Category 3: Procedures of High or Substantial Severity
